Two New Polls: Americans’ Support for Ukraine is Growing!

In two new polls released in June by the Harvard CAPS/Harris and the Peace Through Strength Institute, support for Ukraine is gaining momentum.

According to the June Harvard/ Harris poll, 73% of American voters believe the Russian President is playing games and stalling peace efforts rather than genuinely wanting to end the war. This is an increase of 7% from the last poll. 62% say that they want the United States to continue to provide weapons to Ukraine and impose sanctions on Russia. This includes a majority of voters across both political parties. 61% of voters say that President Trump has not been tough enough on Putin. 68% of voters say that the United States’ relationship with Ukraine is more valuable than a relationship with Russia, favoring Ukraine’s minerals agreement and military actions over Russia’s nuclear power or as a counterweight to China.

In a May poll by the Peace through Strength Institute released in June, 82% of Americans believe allowing countries to take land by force sets a dangerous precedent, and 65% of Americans polled oppose letting Russia keep Crimea. 84% of those polled back a sanctions bill against Russian oil and gas. 76% believe military aid is justified, and 58% say President Trump should boost military aid to stop Russia.

The two independent polls show that Americans overwhelmingly support Ukraine over Russia. They want the Trump Administration to get tougher on Russia, provide more military aid to Ukraine, and sanction Russia more vigorously.  A good start would be for the Trump Administration to come out in support of the Russia Sanctions Bill of 2025 and for Congress to pass the bill in a bipartisan fashion.
