Russia Escalates Drone Attacks As Peace Talks Stall
On Sunday, June 8th, through Monday, Russia launched its largest drone strike using 479 drones and twenty missiles, according to the Associated Press (AP), in different parts of Ukraine. Ukraine was able to intercept 277 drones and nineteen missiles, with only ten drones or missiles hitting their targets.
Again, from Monday through Sunday, the AP reported that Russia sent another 315 mostly Shahed drones and seven missiles. A maternity hospital and residential buildings were among the buildings struck in Odesa. Two people were killed and nine were injured in Odesa, according to the reporting. Another person was killed in Kyiv’s Obolanskyi district.
While Ukraine hits legitimate military targets like air bases, military cargo railroads, and bridges, Russia continues to target civilians and innocents like pregnant mothers. Russia does not want peace. It wants the Ukrainian surrender.
To counter this, the United States needs to show strength to Russia and bring them to the peace negotiating table. We can do this by passing the Russia Sanctions Act of 2025 and providing Ukraine with more defensive weapons to help them close their skies to these war crime strikes.
