Democrats Stand by Ukraine

In a March 18th Gallup poll, seventy-nine percent of Democrats in the United States believed the country was not providing enough support for Ukraine.

During the initial years after the unprovoked Russian invasion, there was clear bipartisan support for Ukraine as a victim and key ally that the United States should support. Since then, the Democrats’ support for Ukraine has not wavered. In the March survey, only 17% of Democrats wanted to see a quick end to the war if it resulted in Ukraine losing territory to Russia. 92% of Democrats surveyed believed any negotiated peace agreement would be too favorable to Russia.

Leaders of the Democratic Party in Washington continue to communicate their defence of Ukraine. Some of the strongest voices on X for Ukraine and against Russia are Democrat voices and include:

“Thank you to the Ukrainian community in Roanoke for their hospitality. I told them about my trip to Ukraine last week, and we discussed the urgent need to continue supporting Ukraine and democracy around the world. I’ll keep working to push that support in Congress.” – April 25, 2025, Senator Tim Kaine (D), Virginia

“Trump’s so-called “peace” plan offers Putin everything he wants; control of all occupied regions in Ukraine, sanctions lifted, and NATO off the table for Ukraine. In return, Ukraine gets vague promises and no U.S. security guarantees. Totally unacceptable.” – April 22, 2025, Rep. Frank Pallone (D), New Jersey

“We stand firmly alongside the brave people of Ukraine in their fight to protect democracy.” April 8, 2025, Rep. Joe Morelle, (D), New York

“The U.S. and Ukraine share the values of freedom, democracy, and independence. We must continue to stand with our ally.” April 11, 2025, Sen. Maria Cantwell (D), Washington

“Heartbreaking, stomach-turning – Putin’s sickening Palm Sunday attack on Sumy leaves no doubt he is tinkering with Trump. Only strong immediate US military support will persuade the murderous thug to stop playing the President & get serious about peace talks.” – April 14, 2025, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D), Connecticut

“Faith leaders are joining our bipartisan group of Senators to urge the Administration to do everything we can to ensure Ukrainian children who were abducted by Russia are returned home.” – April 6, 2025, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D), Minnesota

“Donald Trump just said Russia’s only concession in a peace deal would be to stop taking all of Ukraine. Putin and Russia have been stomping on Ukraine’s Independence ever since they invaded three years ago – 100% of Ukraine must stay Ukrainian.” – April 24, 2025, Rep. Mike Quigley (D), Illinois

“Ukraine accepted President Trump’s 30-day ceasefire proposal in March. Putin rejected it and continues to pummel Ukraine – including with today’s attack on Kyiv. Russia’s deadliest strike on the city in nearly a year. Russia is the obstacle to peace, not Ukraine.” – April 24, 2025, Senator Mike Bennet (D), Colorado

“The Ukrainian people are not only defending their homeland – they are defending Democracy itself.” -April 8, 2025, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D), California

Thank you to Senator Blumenthal (CT) for introducing, with your Republican colleagues, S.1241 “Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025” a secondary sanctions bill against Russia that already has 60 Senate co-sponsors.

Thank you to Rep. Mike Quigley (IL) and Rep. Marcy Captur (OH) for introducing H.R. 2458 “Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025” with your Republican colleagues.

And thank you, Rep. Gregory Meeks (NY) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (MD), for introducing a Russia sanctions bill and a Ukraine assistance bill in the House.

The American Ukraine PAC is grateful to the steady and unyielding support for Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty of Democrats on Capitol Hill.
